Our third year in Vancouver brought the ninjas back to Water Street, where Workplace Ninjas Canada began in 2024. Together with VanTUG, we filled Microsoft's Gastown office for an evening of sessions VanTUG members first presented at the latest Microsoft 365 Summit — one on the endpoint side, one on security — with 74 people registered, practical lessons, and plenty to take back to work.

Sessions

From SCCM to Intune — a real-world hybrid migration

Ali Alame · CTO & Co-Founder, CyberArmor

Ali walked through moving an organization from SCCM to Intune with a hybrid approach: devices move over through their normal replacement cycle, while targeted migration waves handle urgent or higher-risk departments first — and you never start with your hardest department.

One of the easiest performance wins came from installing less. The Intune proof of concept started with 10 foreground apps and 40–50 minutes to a ready device; moving non-essential apps to background deployment and others to self-service got a lean set of 5 apps down to 13–25 minutes. The takeaway: the technology can be ready, but the organization has to be ready too — people, resources, ownership and timing all shape the plan.

7 Things I Would Do If I Inherited Your Tenant Today

David Nudelman & Chinke Ojiji

The security half of the evening: where to start with a Microsoft 365 tenant you didn't build. A few of the reminders worth keeping:

  • Use Microsoft Secure Score as your baseline to set priorities and measure progress.
  • No logs, no crime — without logs, harmful activity goes unnoticed. No evidence doesn't mean nothing happened.
  • Review sensitivity labels, data protection rules and alert policies.
  • Monitor external email forwarding — including to personal Gmail accounts — and block what isn't authorized.
  • Examine the entry points: user access, spam, phishing and data exposure.

It wrapped with a 30-, 60- and 90-day roadmap — verify progress early rather than discovering on day 90 what needed attention — backed by continuous monitoring, clear communication and an incident response playbook.
